**The Struggle of Security Start-ups** Having worked with many new security start-ups, the same pattern occurs time and again: There is a huge amount of operational expertise but a scarcity of directional clarity. It's a story I see retold often—great operators launching businesses that have great potential but the business quickly comes to a grinding halt. Providing a great service is fantastic and will lead to referrals, however as a business, you cannot rely purely on referrals. You need to have a sales and client acquisition strategy. New business doesn’t just land on your plate, you must put in the work to go and get it. The effort you’ve put into learning the hard skills as a security professional needs to be redirected into driving sales and seeking business. Remember when transitioning and starting out as a business it's important to recognise that you are longer seeking employment. Whilst you may have established years of trust working on behalf of other companies, as a business owner you’re starting anew in building trust, this time with prospective clients. These clients need to have confidence not only in you but in your entire business. To enable you to build trust as a business you need to be bringing in business. I've been there as a start-up, and it’s tough so start thinking about the strategies you are currently using to bring in business. Are they successful? Do you even have one? If not, what could you be doing differently? Helping business owners navigate the challenges of starting and growing their security business is my passion. If you are interested in exploring strategies to boost your sales and accelerate business growth, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. My background and experience within the security industry coupled with my coaching program will help bring clarity and give you a clear path forward to seeing your business grow.
