It was great to see a number of you at the CPW event on Friday, thanks for stopping by my stand to say hello. One of the things that became a common denominator in conversations there is a lot of people currently looking for work or are just starting out in the industry, so I thought I would put a few words here to say if you are just starting out that attending events like this is a great investment in yourself and a good use of your time as you get to meet other operators in the industry as well as some of the employers. The vast majority of the work I have gained during my time in the industry has come from putting myself out there, attending events like these, meeting people, creating a good impression then following up. It takes time to build relationships and it isn't going to happen after one meeting or event but by investing in yourself and showing up correctly goes a long way. And remember the "fortune is in the follow-up". Once you meet someone once who you found interesting don't just leave it there, follow up. The same goes when sending out your CV, don't just send to 100's of companies and leave it there, take a little bit of time, try and find the correct persons name, tailor your CV to them and tell them you will follow up in 7 days with a call.....then do it! If you do this you will be one of probably 10 percent of people who follow-up and this may well be the thing that gets you through the door.
